How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session in Austin
Most women tell me the waiting is harder than the session itself. A little planning takes care of most of those nerves. Here is the same guidance I give every client before her boudoir session in my Austin studio, from two weeks out to the day your gallery arrives.
Two weeks out: plan your looks
You can bring up to three looks, and they work best when each one feels different. I usually suggest this mix.
One piece that makes you feel powerful
A bodysuit, a corset or a set you have been saving for something special.
One soft and simple look
An oversized button down shirt photographs beautifully, and it might already be in your closet.
Something with texture
Lace, mesh, a robe or faux fur adds depth in black and white.
Finishing pieces
Heels you can stand in, stockings, and jewelry you love. Even if you only wear the heels for a few frames, they change how you stand.
Choose pieces that fit the body you have today. Fit matters far more than price. We go through every piece together at your styling consultation, so you will know exactly what to bring before the day arrives.
The week before: skin and grooming
Keep your routine familiar. This is not the week to try a new facial, a new self tanner or a dramatic haircut. If you shave or wax, do it a day or two before so any redness has time to settle. Drink plenty of water and moisturize every day. Clean, neutral nails look polished in every outfit.
The night before
Pack your looks the night before, hang anything that wrinkles, and get a good night of sleep. Go easy on salty food and alcohol, which can leave you feeling puffy in the morning. Make a playlist that makes you feel like yourself and bring it along. Music helps more than you would think.
The day of your session
Arrive with clean, dry hair and a clean face unless your artist asks for something different. Wear loose clothes or a robe and skip anything with a tight waistband or tight straps, so there are no lines on your skin when we begin. Eat a light meal beforehand so you have energy for two hours in the studio.
Professional hair and makeup is included with every session, and it is the best part of the day for most women. It is time to settle in, talk through the plan, and let the nerves soften before the camera ever comes out.
During the session
You do not need to practice poses in a mirror. I direct every pose, down to where your hands go, so you never have to wonder what to do. Your images appear on screen as we shoot, so you can see how you look in real time. A female assistant is on set unless you ask otherwise, and you set the limits for what we photograph. You can change your mind at any point.
After your session
Two days later you receive a private, password protected online gallery. Take your time with it, then choose the collection you want to keep. If you order an album or prints, they arrive about 30 days after you order.
